Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

The birth of Ava DuVernay took place on August 24 on the 24th of August, 1972, in Long Beach California. DuVernay started to discover her creative and artistic side as a child because of her Aunt Denise. The aunt she had was a nurse and did night shifts to ensure that she could devote her day to art literature and theatre. She attended University of California Los Angeles to obtain degrees in English in addition to African American Studies. DuVernay was a student at the college when she became interested in production for broadcast journalism. She began as an intern with CBS News during the O.J. Simpson Trial. DuVernay remembers being assigned to sit at the house of one of the members of the jury and go through their garbage. In the course of her tasks she began to feel dissatisfied by journalism, and shifted into the publicity business. DuVernay began working in a small studio as a Junior Publicist immediately after graduation. The DuVernay Agency is her first PR agency.
